Shirley Weir introduces herself as a "menopause chick" and is here to remind all of us: we deserve to feel amazing! This is a significant pivot from how most of the world thinks about perimenopause, menopause & postmenopause, and Shirley is leading this important paradigm shift.
She is 58 years old, reached menopause at 49, and for the last 12 years has been educating, advocating, and answering thousands of women's health questions via
MenopauseChicks.com and its popular private online community, with 58,000 members.
Menopause is a biological event that has morphed into a social construct. Media, marketers and even the medical community continues to fill the airwaves with noise about menopause. Yet, more conversations about menopause have not translated to more consumer clarity, or better access to care. In many ways, efforts to crack open the menopause conversation have only accentuated long-standing myths, misinformation and stereotypes about women’s health.
Shirley is a three-time author, a TedX speaker, a media spokesperson, and advocates for more midlife health education in workplaces such as Vichy Laboratoires, Astellas, Organon, Canadian Tire, and The London Stock Exchange. She believes that if we truly want to change the future of women's health, we must change how we talk about it.
As an expert in knowledge transfer and a certified peer counselor, Shirley picks apart the lingo of menopause, explains common misinterpretations for the people who need the information most, and offers "script tips" for how to talk about menopause—at home, at work, and in our doctor's appointments!
Shirley's vision is for everyone to have access to evidence-based health information in order to navigate perimenopause-to-postmenopause with confidence and ease! And her goal today is for you to walk away from this session thinking,
"Hmm... I never thought about menopause that way before!”Learn more at
